Timing chains are a critical part of the engine that are often overlooked or considered to not require replacement. I believe this thought process is brought about due to them not commonly having a service interval attached to them or being described as 'lifetime' of the engine. However from my experience a manufacture's idea of a lifetime can be as little as 10 years or 100,000 miles. There are numerous manufactures that produce engines that are prone to timing chain failure. I have been carrying out timing chain replacements for decades on many different brands including Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, BMW, Mini, VAG,  etc. If you are experiencing any unusual noise on cold start or possibly an engine warning light or fault code to do with the camshaft and crankshaft timing, then it could mean that your timing chain has begun to stretch, the timing chain tensioner is failing or other issues within the timing set. I can preform a less intrusive wind in chain repair or can carry out full timing chain set replacement including guides, secondary chains, oil pump chains etc. I have also replaced timing chains as a preventative maintenance service.
